Kickstart 2025: 5 Healthy Spots to Visit in Austin

Written by: Becca Youngers

Happy January and welcome to 2025! With the holiday and end-of-year chaos finally coming to a close, it’s the perfect time to start fresh and try out a new restaurant or two. Whether you swear by resolutions or are just looking to try some new spots in 2025, we’ve compiled a list of healthier spots to check out in Austin this month. Don’t worry – they still taste great! 🙂

1. Tómalo Grill

A neighborhood Mexican spot brought to you by Urbanspace Hospitality, Tómalo Grill is the perfect spot for versatile, family-friendly Mexican located right in the historic Rainey Street district. They’ve got great ceviches, salads and taco offerings. They also cater to gluten-free, keto and other dietary restrictions! Whether you’re exploring Rainey or taking a stroll on the trail by Town Lake, give Tómalo Grill a try! We’d recommend trying a ceviche during happy hour for $4 off!

2. Local Foods

A spot in both Austin and Houston, Local Foods has taken over the lunch scene in downtown Austin. They focus on food sourcing through Texas farmers and purveyors and have a strong emphasis on community. They offer great selections for breakfast, lunch and dinner. We’d recommend their iconic “crunchy” chicken sandwich or their chopped green salad for a lighter option!

3. Nourished ATX

Founded by two friends with culinary backgrounds who wanted healthy on-the-go options, Nourished ATX is a food truck that serves all its options gluten, dairy, seed oil and refined sugar free. They put an emphasis on gut-healthy options that are still extremely flavorful and satiating. We’d recommend their breakfast hash bowl, and definitely check out one of their many drink options!

4. Dai Due

Founded in 2006, Dai Due is a staple for local and seasonal dining in Austin. They source almost all of their ingredients from Texas, and if they’re not from Texas, they’re certified organic. They also are a seed oil-free kitchen. Even if you can’t make it out to the restaurant, they offer great recipes on their website. We’d recommend going for brunch or dinner and also checking out some of the products they sell in-house like bone broth and sourdough bread.

5. Koriente

With an emphasis on healthy and affordable options, Koriente has become a staple for quick options in downtown Austin. They offer options like bentos, bowls and curry that are customizable and vegetarian/vegan friendly. We’d recommend their teriyaki bowl with any of your favorite customizations!
